Herders to Home - Luxury Mongolian Yarn and Fiber

Created by Jon Hetts

From herders to home, our yarns are made with exotic fibers from nomadic, free-range animals on the remote Mongolian plains.

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Crimson Cashmere and Navy Wool stretch goals met! On our way to Cream Cashmere!
almost 5 years ago – Mon, May 13, 2019 at 10:08:13 PM

Hey Everybody,

Definitely have owed you guys an update for a couple of days now. With all the emails for pre-launch and then the few updates soon after launch, I figured I'd give your emails a break for at least a little bit!

But as the title says, we've hit our goals for the crimson cashmere and the navy wool. I'm excited about all the different colors we'll have to choose from this year! Last season we had a lot of browns, so switching it up to the crimson, grey, navy, and natural mix from the wool as well are going to add a lot of awesome variety.

As the separated and washed fiber won't be out until the middle of July, there's still not much to do over here until the campaign ends, but I am trying to get some more information about the sheep wool we'll be getting. Being a new product, I'd like to have some more specific information about the sheep breed, fiber length and width to share with everybody. Once I get some better information about this years fiber I'll share it. I'm hoping for sometime next week!

In the meantime, here's a video of some rebellious yaks waiting to be brushed. I wanted to use them in the kickstarter video, but it didn't come out perfectly. Still some pretty cool looking yaks though!

Alright, thank you guys for the continued support! As always, holler if you have any questions!

We've made it, congratulations are in order!

Thank you to everybody for the awesome start out of the gate! I see different projects that hit their funding goals in 1 or 2 days and think that's just for the bigger companies with huge resources, so it's pretty humbling and awesome that it happened on this campaign as well. I know a huge part of that is my returning backers from last year that are continuing to pledge support, and that means a ton to me.

Going forward, I'm going to start doing some advertising on ravelry, pending approval, and also possibly contacting some youtube channels and seeing if they would be interesting in reviewing the yarn and getting the word out a bit that way. If you have a channel or Instagram personality in mind that you think would fit well with ULA+LIA, please let me know! At this point, keeping some momentum going to get as many colors and weights as possible for our fiber is where my focus will be.

As far as looking forward to the yarn production, I've already started talking to my co-op about getting in line for some fiber. I want to start with getting some sheep wool scoured and washed to get some pictures of what our lovely "Natural Malenge" will look like, and maybe doing a small batch test spinning at another facility I'd like to test out this season.  I'm really excited about the sheep wool, so getting some more solid information about it's softness, length, and how the finished product will look is something I can't wait to get into.

But OK! Not too much else to report here, but wanted to send a message out after hitting our goal. Thanks to everybody again! As always, holler if you have any questions about anything. In the meantime, here's a goat!

Holy Monkey, almost at 10k!
about 5 years ago – Mon, Apr 29, 2019 at 04:52:50 PM

Hey everybody!

I launched pretty late last night my time in Mongolia where I'm 12 hours ahead of EST, so waking up to the campaign this morning was awesome! Thank you so much for the early support and momentum to give us an awesome jump towards the main goal and always important stretch goals to expand our choices! I'm always a complete nervous wreck launching projects, so a great beginning makes things a lot more bearable.

To touch on a couple of common questions:

How can I get more than one reward?

If you'd like to pledge for more than one reward, you can either add the prices of the reward together and manually raise your pledge to that amount, OR, you can just make the pledge at the normal amount and you'll be able to add more rewards in Backerkit after the campaign ends.

What's Backerkit?

For those not familiar with Backerkit, it's a program/website that helps manage Kickstarter campaigns. Once the Kickstarter campaign ends, I'll send you a link to join Backerkit. There, you'll fill out a survey, where you can easily select different options for your reward (yarn weights, colors, etc) and also add on any other rewards you want. Backerkit also allows me to charge incremental shipping, so you will pay a lower shipping for additional items added.

Long story short? Pledge for whatever you want on Kickstarter! You'll always be able to add more later!

Sorry I didn't make both of these more clear in the campaign, but it's hard to find a good spot to put them! There are never any stupid questions here, so always feel free to send me a message or leave a comment.

Thank you guys again!
